Career FAQ's
British Columbia’s oil and gas service sector can provide a lifestyle that few places in Canada can match. The BC oil and gas industry has been growing steadily for fifty years. Our member companies are amongst the largest and longest established service sector businesses in the province. We need workers! We encourage new people to join the sector and we have excellent employment opportunities available NOW.

But… are some things that prospective employees should “know before you go” to start your job search.

Accommodation is often in short supply, particularly during the peak winter season. Don’t attempt a job search without pre-arranging a place to stay.

Driving is pre-requisite for most industry jobs. A valid, unrestricted license with a clean drivers abstract will be mandatory for many employers.

Safety is the concern and responsibility of every employer and employee. Education, training, supervision along with drug and alcohol testing are common elements of our members safety program and operating culture.

Physical fitness and strength are a job requirement for many occupations in the industry

Working conditions can include long hours, extreme weather and extended periods away from home. This is one of the primary reasons for the high level of compensation in the industry.

Training requirements vary by employer, but many have pre-requisite training requirements before you are able to work on a jobsite. We recommend that workers investigate the requirements and acquire relevant tickets BEFORE beginning a job search:
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1
  • Petroleum Safety Training
  • H2S Alive
